The Bamboo Page, Philaethria dido

Bamboo Page

This species ranges from Mexico to the Amazon Basin in association with lowland rainforest habitats. Adults are rarely seen in the wild because they occupy the forest canopy. Their flight is fast and agile and they fly in a zig zag pattern across the canopy.

This species is recognized by the green and black pattern on the dorsal surface of the wing.

Adults feed on nectar from Cissus and other camopy flowers and unlike some other Heliconiine butterflies, the Bamboo Page butterflies do not feed on pollen.
